Market Research

Task 2B

For NCTV/ MINE  I carried out research to find out what the target audience want. I created a survey and asked 16-24 year olds to answer it. I Carried out research about what they watch on TV and what they and also at the cinema, My questionnaire was answered by 24 of my fellow peers. The research I carried out is conclusive to the fact most people in the target audience watch TV between 2-5 hours a day, but they find that commercial Ad breaks are annoying regardless of the fact they find them annoying most of them still watch channels that have ad breaks like ITV and Channel 4, with 26% for each of them.

Movies Watched on TV per week

These 2 channels came out on top, the target audience also enjoy watching BBC (13%) , Sky channels; Sky Atlantic, Sky living Sky Movies (13%) however I would have expected that most 16-24 year olds would watch a lot of music channel but they don't only 4% of the people a surveyed watched music channels.

To the managers of NCTV/MINE I would suggest that they broadcasts TV shows or movies that are of the Comedy genre, as this was the highest rated genre for both TV film. Broadcasting comedy's would NCTV/MINE gain more viewers and Appeal to the majority of the of the target audience. I would also recommend that NCTV/MINE shows drama programs, this is because my findings are  that Drama is the second highest watched genre (25%) for tv programs. In my own opinion I would suggest that they shows dramas like ITV's LUCAN (2013). Programs that are broadcast in parts are Likely to gain the channel more viewers as people generally want to see have happens in the end.

Please see post below for full results of my questionnaire.

I have taken a look at BARB the website that shows the figures for what people have watched on TV. Although the information from this website may not be totally relevant because the data on there is taken for all ages and not just 16-24 year olds, but It can be of some help if we wanted to open up to a wider audience. Currently on BARB they are stats say that for the pervious week 3-9th February BBC's 'Call The MidWife' was the most popular show on TV with 10.23 million viewers, After 'Call the Midwife' is was ITV's 'Coronation Street' and then 'Top gear'. In my opinion I would personally say that NCTV seriously considered broadcasting a a show that is like 'Top Gear' as this is Very Popular with Male audiences of 16-24 years.
